Cotton Saree caring tips:

Cotton sarees need a lot of maintenance because they are made of delicate material. Since many of these sarees are woven, they require extra care.

• Be careful to wash cotton sarees in colors like black, red, turquoise and deep blue separately since they tend to bleed.

• Cotton sarees should not be immersed in water for long. They should be soaked for a maximum of 5 minutes and washed immediately.

• They should be dried in the shade and never in direct sunlight as this may cause the color to fade.

• Before ironing, they should be sprinkled lightly with water and pressed with a moderately hot iron. Cotton sarees get creases very easily, so iron with care.

• Cotton sarees with zari detailing should be dry cleaned and not washed at home.

Chiffon Saree caring tips:

Chiffon sarees also require maintenance since they are made of a flimsy material.

2. What made you fall in love with this profession?

I was born to be an Artist; the passion for Make-Up and Henna just ran through my veins.

Throughout my teenage years I’d beautified my family member’s hands on Eid with intricate henna designs, and made over friends for parties and proms as my hobby. My first ever Bridal Henna booking was at the age of 13yrs.

Keeping this as a hobby, I continued with my studies in Business, and then went on to university and studied Marketing.

3. Any Special/Remembering moment or event of life you would like to share with readers.

In 2008, I was persuaded by a close friend (My inspiration and guide) to enter The Art of Henna competition, which was to take place in Wembley, London. Up against other aspiring artists, I adorned the hands and arms of the model with my unique Rajasthani inspired design. The pressure was on. Whilst applying such intricate henna, I was also expected to deliver the judges with a little background of myself, the Art of Henna, and what inspired me. The day came to an end, as I took home title of “Bridal Henna Artist 2008”

“..It’s a moment I’ll never forget. I remember standing there as the judges announced the runners up. I looked over to my friend as they were about to announce the Bridal Henna Artist… All of a sudden I heard my name, shocked yet over the moon. I was so happy”.

From that moment on, I decided to spread my wings into the Asian Bridal Industry by launching my own website and other social networking hubs to gain more publicity amongst my potential clienteles.

4. What all services you offer?

I provide a high-end service to all my clienteles. I offer trials/consultations for Bridal Make-Up and Henna. When it comes to Make-Up, I agree, you just can’t settle for that one look. I work with client ideas and produce two looks based on their choice of Contemporary or Traditional styles.

1. Yasmin, please tell us about your business and journey till now as a Photographer.

I have always been a photo enthusiast and really enjoyed looking through photo albums, organizing them, and documenting my trips as a child. As I got older I starting thinking more seriously about photography and read pretty much anything and everything I could get my hands on. I eventually worked for and mentored under a pet photographer here in Las Vegas who taught me a lot, and always answered my questions. After working for her for a year and a half, I started my own studio. Now I’m completely on my own and photograph portraits, weddings, beauty and fashion.

Being of Pakistani decent, it was natural for me to specialize with the South Asian market and I pride myself on being able to identify with my South Asian brides considering most of them were born and raised here in the States just like me. What used to set me apart from my Caucasian counterparts growing up, has now turned into a huge asset for me and my business and I’m able to specialize and deliver high-end portrait products for my clients just as if I was providing for my own family. I continue to be inspired by those around me, my culture, traditions and heritage, and it’s a unique factor of my photography business.

2. What made you to fall in love with this profession?

I’ll never forget the first time I saw Steve McCurry’s famous image on the cover of National Geographic of the Afghani girl refugee. That portrait still resonates with me and makes me want to jump out of my skin! It was one of the first images I saw of someone from my own culture that was so beautiful, touching, stunning, and striking that it literally took my breath away. I also grew up surrounded with provocative imagery as my parents subscribed to LIFE magazine and National Geographic, and I used to spend hours looking through the magazines being touched with such emotion in every image. Those images told stories and shared emotionally charged moments whether it be haunting, joyful, or thought-provoking. I was very drawn to feeling those emotions through imagery.

I also love the aspect photography plays in family history. To look back at an album from when my parents were young, gives such a wonderful sense of ancestry, place in this world, and sense of family. Photography documents family history to be shared and passed on for generations to come. These are priceless moments caught on camera and it may be taken during a fleeting moment, but it will speak volumes of you to your great-grandchildren and their descendants.

3. Any Special/Remembering moment or event of life you would like to share with readers.

There are so many that I’ve in my life that it is difficult to choose just one. I will say, that as I’ve ventured into the photography industry, I’ve met some of the most incredible friends. Each is one nicer than the other, supportive, helpful, encouraging and loving. You truly have to love people to be a photographer and that shows through in our imagery and ability to work with clients and foster a family feeling and support of our colleagues.
